Rita’s Seaside Grille – Nacho Ordinary Beach Food

The South Carolina Lowcountry is renowned for many things, especially its cuisine. While enjoying the sun and surf on a recent writing trip, I happened upon Rita’s Seaside Grille in Folly Beach where I found good food, friendly atmosphere and the most amazing nachos I’ve ever had. Nacho ordinary nachos I love nachos. It’s not unusual for me to order nachos as a meal. So, naturally, trying Rita’s Signature Nachos was a must. In a word, WOW. Piled high, covered with cheese, tasty red and yellow peppers, giant chunks of fresh tuna, spicy jalapeños, and a surprise to my taste […]

Try Pop’s Diner for a taste of nostalgia at Carolina Beach

I go to the beach in the off-season because it’s the perfect time and place for a writer to write. However, I still like to explore and enjoy being a tourist as well. While spending a winter weekend working on my book at Carolina Beach, North Carolina,  I was directed to Pop’s Diner by a local. Pop’s is a delightful, old-time diner and proved to be the perfect spot for lunch. Fabulous, Fun Atmosphere Before I even walked inside, I could tell this is a fun place. The kitschy 1950’s/1960’s style décor is bright and cheerful. Old-time shiny red booths […]

But for travelers yearning for a slightly more remote, secluded beach experience, keep traveling to the southern-most end of South Carolina’s Grand Strand to find Pawleys Island. 25-miles south of Myrtle Beach and 70-miles north of Charleston, this sleepy village is a hidden coastal gem. Named for George Pawley, who owned the island […]

Cool, Sweet & Easy Wines for Three Generations – That’s the motto at Duplin Winery of Rose Hill, North Carolina.  The family-owned winery and vineyards has expanded operations and is now open for business on U.S. Highway 17 South in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I visited their new facility and met with Jonathan Fussell of Duplin.  Fussell took me on a tour of the winery where I experienced first-hand, delicious wine and southern hospitality.  After my time there, I’m certain, Duplin Winery will quickly become a landmark in this beach community. About Duplin Winery Fussell’s family began growing muscadine […]
