Lights, camera, action – Silverspot is coming to Chapel Hill

If you live in or are considering traveling to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, the charming college town is about to get more entertaining. Florida-based Silverspot is about to open their third theater and their first in the Tar Heel State.

What is Silverspot?

Silverspot is a high-end movie theatre that’s 100% dedicated to the movie experience.

Despite the fact we live in an era where it's possible to stream films to a multitude of devices, nothing beats watching a movie on the big screen. That being said, today’s movie-goers are looking for more than just a big screen and loud speakers. That’s where Silverspot kicks things up a notch.

What to expect

Silverspot's end-to-end approach to tailoring and improving the movie-going experience is a refreshing take on a time-honored tradition.  With its updated method, Silverspot provides movie enthusiasts with a unique, boutique-style, indy-feel, niche movie-going experience.

Expect a new concept in movie-going and prepare to immerse yourself in a one-of-a-kind cinematic encounter.

The Hard Hat Tour

Silverspot and its PR firm conducted their media Hard Hat Tour, where I learned some of the details about this new theater slated to open October 2nd in Chapel Hill.

Here are some of the highlights of the tour;

  • There are 13 screens and 1400 seats. The theater will feature fist-run films, indy films, film series as well as private parties.
  • Custom-made seating – these seats are made in South America exclusively for Silverspot. Comfort is key and they’ve even added extra cup holders – one for the wine bottle another for the wine glass. An added detail they’ve taken into consideration is the location of their accessible seating. Accessible seating is on the upper level giving a much better view of the screen than in traditional theaters. There's an elevator to get you to the upper levels.
  • No lines – There’s no box office at Silverspot. Tickets can be purchased on-line, by app or at one of the on-site ticket kiosks.
  • Reserved seating – No more hunting for an open seat in dim lighting. When you purchase your ticket, you also reserve the seat of your choice.
  • A full-service restaurant – The chef at the theater’s restaurant, Trilogy, will be preparing cuisine with a local flare. Come early and have a drink at the bar, enjoy dining at a table, or get it 'To Go' into the movie with you. Even if you’re not attending a movie, stop in and enjoy the restaurant. They’re open for lunch, dinner, and there will be plenty of TV screens for watching the game. This is Chapel Hill after all.
  • Restaurant reservations can be made on-line at Open Table.

Grand Opening

Silverspot will hold its grand opening on Friday, October 2, 2015, and is located at University Place, 201 S. Estes Drive in Chapel Hill, North Carolina - just a short distance from the University of North Carolina campus.

When I arrived for the hard hat tour, I wasn’t certain what to expect. What I came away with is a sense that at Silverspot, movie-goers will be able to fully engage in the movie-going experience. They've thought of virtually every detail to make seeing a movie enjoyable and memorable. Silverspot isn't your ordinary theater and will become a welcomed and entertaining attraction in this picturesque college town.
