Tucked in the rolling foothills of the North Georgia mountains, Dahlonega is a place where scenic drives, small-town charm, and a growing wine culture come together to create unforgettable escapes. While many people may not immediately think of Georgia when they think of wine country, this beautiful corner of the Peach State has quietly become a destination worth savoring. During my visit to Three Sisters Vineyards, I discovered exactly why Dahlonega’s wine country continues to capture the hearts of visitors looking for a slower pace, beautiful scenery, and a memorable day.

ToggleA Beautiful Setting & Story Behind Three Sisters Vineyards
I love a winery that has a compelling story, and Three Sisters Vineyards’ story fits the bill. Founded in 1996 by Sharon and Doug Paul, this is a family venture through and through. From its name, taken from the surrounding mountains, to its first plantings to the burgeoning winery it is today, family is the thread weaving its way through every element of the business.
While smaller than some wineries and vineyards, the rustic tasting room and outdoor seating areas offer an inviting place to linger over a glass of wine and good conversation. This tranquil corner of Lumpkin County encourages visitors to slow down and savor not only the wine, but also the rolling mountain views and peaceful surroundings.

Savoring the Wines at Three Sisters Vineyards
Situated in the foothills of the North Georgia mountains within the Dahlonega Plateau AVA, Three Sisters Vineyards benefits from warm days, cool nights, and well-drained soils that create ideal conditions for growing European-style grapes. The result is a diverse selection of handcrafted wines, including reds, whites, rosés, sparkling wines, and dessert wines, each reflecting the unique character of the region.
For our girls’ weekend, we sampled several wines from the tasting menu. I started with an oaky Chardonnay before ending with a crisp, refreshing rosé, while one of my friends discovered a new favorite: a Cabernet Franc she had never tried before.
As we relaxed on the patio, we were greeted by one of the co-owners, who stopped by to welcome us and make sure we were enjoying our tasting. It’s that kind of personal hospitality, paired with excellent wines and beautiful mountain views, that makes visiting a family-owned winery such a memorable experience.
Our afternoon at Three Sisters Vineyards was the perfect way to ease into the weekend; sharing great wine, plenty of laughter, and time together in one of North Georgia’s most scenic settings.

“Dahlonega Wine Country is close enough to Atlanta for a memorable day trip yet far enough away to feel like a true mountain escape. Combine a winery visit with time exploring the historic downtown square, nearby attractions, and scenic North Georgia landscapes for an itinerary that feels relaxed and rewarding.”

The Kind of Place You Want to Stay a While
My friends and I arrived planning to make Three Sisters Vineyards just one stop on our itinerary. Before long, though, we realized we had no desire to leave. Between the welcoming atmosphere, beautiful scenery, and excellent wine, we were perfectly content to spend the afternoon right where we were.
In addition to its scenic setting, delicious wines, and soft background music, Three Sisters Vineyards is a wonderful place to gather with friends and family. Open Thursday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m., the winery welcomes a variety of visitors, including well-behaved, leashed dogs in the outdoor areas. Thanks to its rural location, it’s also common to spot local wildlife. Depending on the season, you may see deer, wild turkeys, turtles, or even a fox. As the winery reminds guests, they’re “beautiful to watch; just admire them from a distance.”
