Is a travel vest for you? A look at the SCOTTeVEST Travel Vest for Women

A woman sipping coffee outside
Hi, I’m Anna Marie. I’m a wife, mother, Irish dancer, and pug mom living in North Carolina. I also love to travel. Come along for the ride! If you see something you like, don’t be afraid to say, ‘Pull over and let me out.’
UPDATE March 16, 2018 – Since this post was written, I’ve become a SCOTTeVEST affiliate!!
For a while, I’ve seen this product advertised and thought to myself it would be perfect for traveling hands-free.  It’s called the SCOTTeVEST and finally, I’ve had the opportunity to check it out.  I’m not affiliated with the company in any way, just a curious traveler looking for an easier way of carrying my stuff while minimizing bulk.

What’s a SCOTTeVEST?

A SCOTTeVEST is an alternative to carrying all of your gear in a bag, purse or backpack.

Simply put, you carry what you need in your pockets.  The vest is actually a weight management system engineered to balance the weight of the items you carry, in a way that makes carrying them in your pockets easier and more comfortable than carrying them in a bag. (I’m paraphrasing the product brochure)

Features

There is a total of 17 pockets in the Travel Vest For Women, which is what I have.  In addition to the 17 pockets, some of the key features include; It’s easy to slip on and off, lightweight and breathable fabric, it’s Teflon treated to be water and stain resistant, it’s comfortable, and it folds up into its own back pocket making it easy to carry.

What is TEC?

The SCOTTeVEST is considered TEC clothing – technology enabled clothing, which to quote the product literature that came with my vest, means it “allows you to wire the headphones from your MP3 player or cell phone through specially designed conduits in the garments, without getting tangled in loose wires.”

Bottom Line

Bottom line, this is a vest, but the longer I wore it, I began to think of it as more of a high-quality bag.  I filled my pockets, yet didn’t feel bulky or awkward.  Yes, it took me a while adjusting to being this self-contained, but I quickly got used to not having a purse on my shoulder.  Additionally, the security element of having everything in zipped pockets is a huge plus.

Price is in the $135 range for the vest, but again, a good travel bag or backpack costs that much too.  Considering all I put in the vest as well as the quality of materials, I think it’s reasonably priced. It comes with a pocket map to show the storage options and where to put items such as your phone, passport, license, camera, sunglasses etc. They also make other TEC items for women and men.

Overall, I give the SCOTTeVEST Travel Vest for Women a thumbs up.  I’m having fun with my new acquisition.
